Standard EN SampleExplosive Atmospheres - Part 37: Non-Electrical Equipment for Explosive Atmospheres - Non-Electrical Type of Protection Constructional Safety
Also Known As:
The specifications for the design and construction of non-electrical equipment suited for operation in explosive atmospheres are laid forth in the UL 80079-37:2021 standard. This standard focuses on three different types of protection: liquid immersion (class "k"), control of the ignition source (class "b"), and constructional safety ("c").
The requirements outlined in ISO/IEC 80079-36 are supplemented and modified by the standard. The requirements of UL 80079-37 take precedence over the requirements of ISO/IEC 80079-36 in situations where there is a dispute between the two standards.
The types of protection "c," "k," and "b" are not appropriate for Group I, EPL Ma, without further protective measures; it is necessary to mention them. Depending on the ignition hazard assessment described in ISO/IEC 80079-36, the standard offers recommendations on how certain methods of ignition protection can be employed separately or in combination to meet the criteria for equipment in Group I, Group II, and Group III.
The requirements cited in IEC and ISO standards must be interpreted in accordance with any applicable US National Differences for that standard. The federal government's Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), which has control over underground mines in the US, is also listed. In some situations, there may be additional restrictions that are applicable in addition to those in the standard.
