UL 1369:2020 is a standard that covers the requirements for aboveground piping used for the transfer and containment of flammable and combustible liquids and fuels. The standard applies to primary, secondary, and coaxial types of pipes, which may be flexible or rigid and constructed with metallic, nonmetallic, or composite materials. The nominal size of these pipes ranges from 12.7 mm to 152.4 mm.

These pipes are designed for various applications, including general aboveground use such as piping between tanks and dispensers, as well as specific aboveground uses like marinas. They are intended for use with commercially available fuels and fuel components, under expected use conditions and exposures that have similar chemical, physical, and material compatibility properties.

Products covered by UL 1369:2020 need to be installed and used in accordance with applicable codes and regulations, such as NFPA standards in the United States and the National Fire Code of Canada. The standard also refers to recommended practices that can be used as determined by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).

It is important to note that UL 1369:2020 does not cover aboveground piping products for liquid fuels covered by other standards, such as UL 180 and ULC/ORD-C180 for liquid-level gauges, or underground piping products found in CAN/ULC-S679 and UL 971/971A for metallic and nonmetallic underground piping. Additionally, the standard does not cover aboveground piping products for gaseous fuels, as there are separate standards for that, such as UL 536 and ULC/ORD-C536. Flexible metal connector piping and flexible elastomeric fuel dispensing and vapor recovery hose are also excluded from this standard, as they fall under different standards like UL 2039, UL 330A/330B, and CAN/ULC-S633.
