Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Particular Requirements for Electrical Heat Pumps, Air-Conditioners and Dehumidifiers
Also Known As:
The safety criteria for electric heat pumps, air conditioners, and dehumidifiers are the emphasis of AS/NZS 60335.2.40:2019. For single-phase appliances, the maximum rated voltage is 250 V, while for all other appliances, it is 600 V. The guideline also applies to non-household equipment that could endanger the public, such as those used in stores, light industries, and farms.
The standard is applicable to both fully assembled appliances and component parts used in matched assemblies. Regarding the safety standards for refrigeration, it refers to ISO 5149 and defines specific rules for the use of flammable refrigerants. However, it excludes refrigerants that are not categorized as groups A1, A2L, A2, and A3 by ISO 817.
Supplemental heaters are covered by this standard if they are created as an integrated element of the appliance package with controls. It should be noted that appliances used in automobiles, ships, or aircraft, as well as appliances subjected to pressure, may require additional standards. Furthermore, additional standards for the protection of labor, storage, transit, building construction, and installations may be specified by national health authorities and other pertinent agencies.
It is important to remember that this guideline does not apply to all equipment. These include humidifiers used in conjunction with heating and cooling units, equipment specifically made for industrial processes, and equipment destined for use in environments with corrosive or explosive atmospheres.
