The AS 2316.2.1:2016 standard is a regulation that covers the parts of both stationary and portable ropes courses. Establishing safety requirements for the design, building, inspection, and maintenance of ropes courses and the parts that make them up is the aim of this standard.

Temporary ropes courses or playgrounds for children are not covered by Part 1 of the standard, which is especially focused on safety standards for ropes courses. The scope of this standard does not include temporary ropes courses, and EN 1176's safety criteria apply to playgrounds for kids.

The standard recognizes that the use of rope courses is covered in a different part, Part 2. Therefore, when assessing the general safety and operational facets of ropes courses, Part 2 should be consulted in addition to Part 1.
