The AS/NZS 60335.2.43:2018 (IEC TEXT) standard is concerned with safety standards for electric towel racks and dryers. This standard covers electric clothes dryers made to dry fabrics on racks suspended in warm airflow as well as dryers made especially to dry gloves or shoes. Additionally, it applies to electric towel rails with a rated voltage of no more than 250 V that are used for domestic and similar purposes.
The standard discusses a number of safety issues, including the kind and style of clothing racks—which can either be fixed or free-standing in a cabinet—as well as their construction. It also takes into account the different types of air circulation, including forced and natural. The aim is to guarantee the efficient and safe operation of these appliances.
Notably, AS/NZS 60335.2.43:2018 replaced AS/NZS 60335.2.43:2005 and is in accordance with the IEC 60335-2-43 Ed 4 (2017) standard. On November 30, 2021, the new version went into effect, offering makers and users of home towel rails and clothes dryers updated and improved safety rules.
