Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-43: Particular Clothes Dryers and Towel Rails
Also Known As:
IEC 60335-2-43:2017 is a safety standard that addresses the specifications for electric towel rails and clothes dryers used in homes and other similar settings. The standard applies to both clothes dryers used to dry textiles on drying racks placed in warm airflow and dryers used to dry footwear or gloves. Additionally, hot towels are provided in bathrooms via electric towel rails.
The standard is applicable to appliances having a maximum rated voltage of 250 volts, including free-standing and mounted clothing racks as well as appliances with forced or natural air circulation. It also applies to devices that aren't meant for typical household use but could nonetheless endanger the public, like those that are employed by laypeople in light industrial, agricultural, or retail settings.
The standard seeks to address typical risks that everyone faces in and around the home, but it might not fully take into consideration people who have physical, sensory, or mental impairments or youngsters who might not be able to use the equipment safely without adult supervision or guidance.
Spin extractors, tumble dryers, and other appliances made specifically for industrial usage or for use in environments with unique requirements, such as those with corrosive or explosive atmospheres, are exempt from the standard.
This fourth edition of the standard supersedes the third edition that was released in 2002, and as a significant technical modification, it now contains specifications for clothes dryers meant to dry gloves or shoes.
