Standard ENStandard Specification for Artists' Colored Pencils
Also Known As:
These pencils must meet quality standards for their composition, functionality, and labeling, according to ASTM D6901-15. It covers not only the actual colored pencils but also the production vehicles and additives.
According to the standard, labels for colored pencils for artists must contain a variety of details, including the manufacturer's name and address, identification number, country of origin, color index names, lightfastness rating, type of pencil, toxicity warning, and conformance statement.
According to the performance criteria, colored pencils must be able to apply an even coating without leaving scratch marks or breaking frequently.
Each pencil must be subjected to both simulated window glass-filtered daylight radiation and real daylight through window glass in order to meet the standard's requirements for determining its lightfastness grade. Following the ASTM standard testing procedure, testing is done on white, uncoated, buffered paper or board that has a neutral pH and no optical brighteners.
