Standard ENStandard Specification for Aboveground Portable Pools for Residential Use
Also Known As:
The ASTM F2666-16 standard outlines the performance and safety requirements for transportable pools used in residential settings. The standard intends to address different pool dangers, such as entrapment, electrical safety, childhood drowning, and sanitation.
Two different kinds of portable pools are covered by the specification: Type A, which does not need a pump or filter, and Type B, which does. For testing purposes, the pools must be able to endure both horizontal and vertical stresses in order to avoid breaking or collapsing. Each inflatable section must have access to air valves, and the valves must fit inside the inflated area without sticking out more than a predetermined distance.
Every pool must have written instructions that detail pool safety, product description, parts and assembly, filling and emptying, deflation (if necessary), cleaning, maintenance, and storage, among other vital details. These instructions must also include the name or number of the pool's model, the manufacturer's, distributor's, or retailer's contact information, and the instructions for each pool.
It's crucial to remember that this regulation only applies to portable pools whose water depth is under 36 inches (91 cm). The ANSI/APSP-4 standard must be followed for any home above-ground or on-ground swimming pool with a water depth of 36 inches (91 cm) or more. Additionally, this criterion excludes fish ponds, commercial amusement park pools, public swimming pools, water displays, and water fountains.
