Standard ENStandard Test Method for Quantitating Non-UV-Absorbing Nonvolatile Extractables from Microwave Susceptors Utilizing Solvents as Food Simulants
Also Known As:
Using solvents as food substitutes, the ASTM F1500-98 (R2019) standard test technique attempts to quantify non-UV-absorbing, nonvolatile extractables from microwave susceptors. The purpose of the test procedure was to detect and track the movement of non-UV-absorbing, nonvolatile extractables from the susceptor material while it was in operation. Through susceptor design or manufacturing procedures, it is possible to reduce the number of these extractables by using this test method.
To add more detail to the test method's identification of the non-UV-absorbing nonvolatile extractables in the susceptor, other analytical technologies, such as high-pressure liquid chromatography, supercritical fluid chromatography, infrared spectroscopy, or other types of spectroscopy, can be used.
This standard describes a method for quantifying non-UV-absorbing, nonvolatile chemicals that can be retrieved when the susceptor is tested under simulated use settings for a particular food product. It is applicable to all microwave susceptors.
