Standard ENStandard Test Method for Pile Thickness of Finished Multilevel Pile Yarn Floor Covering
Also Known As:
To measure the pile thickness of multilevel pile yarn floor coverings, utilize Standard Test Method ASTM D7241-13. Since variations in pile thickness can affect the appearance and functionality of such floor coverings, this measurement is crucial for quality and cost management during the manufacturing process.
For the acceptance testing of commercial shipments, this test procedure is frequently employed in the trade. It offers results that are reliable with comparably good precision across laboratories. Comparative tests should be run to find any statistical bias if test results from different laboratories differ significantly. The samples for these tests should be as uniform as possible, taken from the same batch of materials, and distributed equally and at random to each laboratory. If a bias is discovered, it must be eliminated, or future test findings must be modified to account for the bias.
The actual test procedure entails employing a thickness measuring device made up of a stationary surface (platen) and a circular pressure foot that applies pressure with a predetermined amount of force. It is possible to raise the instrument vertically above the platen. Only completed multilevel loop pile constructions can use this technique. It should be noted that Test Method D418 previously included the measurement of pile thickness for multilayer pile yarn floor coverings; however, for user convenience, it has since been divided into distinct standards.
