Standard ENStandard Consumer Safety Specification for Soft Infant and Toddler Carriers
Also Known As:
To enhance the security of soft infant and toddler carriers, the ASTM F2236-16a standard strives to create criteria. It describes these carriers as fabric-based items with a weight range of 7 to 45 lb (3.2 to 22 kg) or less that are intended to hold full-term infants and toddlers in an upright position. The kid is placed inside the carriers, which are worn by caregivers and often slung from one or both shoulders.
To reduce the danger of accidents and newborn injuries, the standard specifies performance standards, test procedures, and marking requirements. Both intended use and conceivably foreseeable misuse are addressed. The standard also makes clear that "slings" are not items covered by it and that it is not intended to handle accidents involving other people or objects while the carrier is in operation.
Any soft infant and toddler carrier created after the consumer safety specification's approval date may only bear the label "compliant" if it complies with all its specifications.
