Standard EN SampleStandard Consumer Safety Specification for Infant Inclined Sleep Products
Also Known As:
In order to reduce potential risks for infants using such goods, the ASTM F3118-17a standard attempts to set safety performance requirements, test procedures, and labeling regulations. The guideline considers both the dangers of routine usage and the potential abuse or misuse of these tilted sleep products.
This safety requirement mainly concerns free-standing infant inclined sleep products with an inclined sleep surface that are intended and marketed to offer sleeping spaces for infants up to 5 months old or until the infant starts to roll over or pull up on the sides, whichever comes first. Additionally, it covers smaller items made for newborns up to three months old, or until the baby learns to move around, turns over, or weighs more than 15 lb (6.8 kg), whichever comes first. Infant and newborn inclined sleep product accessories are also included, as are accessories that are attached to or supported by a different product of a comparable age or capability.
The specification highlights that an inclined sleep product must adhere to all applicable standards of another ASTM standard consumer safety specification if it can be transformed into a new product. For instance, an inclined sleep device should also meet the pertinent specifications of Consumer Safety Specification F2194 if it can be adjusted to a reclining angle lower than 10°.
It is significant to note that any infant inclined sleep device created after the approval date of this standard must abide by all the specifications' requirements in order to make the claim that it complies with them.
