The ASTM F1352-08 (R2013) standard offers draft recommendations for six aspects of the performance and security of broadheads.

The manual is not meant to be a complete or exhaustive study of the topic, and there may be other performance- and safety-related issues that need to be addressed. A group of experienced field bowhunters, experts in the design and production of broadheads, and people with an understanding of the business' distribution and retail sectors collaborated to create the proposed basic guidelines.

The first three recommendations concentrate on performance-related elements like flight, penetration, and sharpness that can also affect safety. The next three recommendations cover impact resistance, assembly and attachment techniques, and packaging, all of which are critical in establishing how safe a broadhead is for the end user to handle.
