Standard ENStandard Specification for Designation of the Balance Point Location for Archery Arrows
Also Known As:
For locating and labeling the balancing point of an arrow assembly used with an archery bow, refer to the ASTM F1435-08 (R2013) standard.
The ATA (Archery Trade Association) arrow length is used as the base of the standard to establish the balancing point of the arrow assembly. All parts of the assembled arrow, including the arrow point, must be present, mounted firmly, and prepared for use. By balancing the arrow assembly on a knife edge and moving it longitudinally until perfect balance is attained, the balance point can be found.
The Front of Center (FOC) measurement, which is the distance from the designated point or the bottom of the nock slot to the balancing point, is also described by the standard. A specific formula is used to determine the percentage of FOC.
A variety of arrow assemblies, including those with replaceable point inserts, tapered or swaged front ends of the shaft, outserts, and heads with integral cylindrical sockets, are depicted in the standard.
