Standard EN SampleStandard Safety Specification for Clothing Storage Units
Also Known As:
The ASTM F2057-19 standard seeks to prevent child injuries and deaths caused by tipover dangers related to garment storage units. It focuses on a variety of units, including chests, drawer chests, chests of drawers, dressers, and bureaus.
The standard specifies specific procedures for performing stability testing on these units' drawers. The test is ensuring that the unit does not tip over or rely exclusively on opened drawers, doors, or flaps for support.
The regulation only applies to free-standing garment storage units that are 27 inches (686 mm) or taller. It does not, however, cover shelving units such as bookcases or entertainment furniture, office furniture, dining room furniture, jewelry armoires, underbed drawer storage units, occasional or accent furniture not intended for bedrooms, laundry storage or sorting units, nightstands, or permanently attached units. Furthermore, the guideline is intended to encompass youngsters up to and including the age of five.
ASTM F2057-19 supersedes the prior standard, PS 110-98. Its major objective is to protect children from tipover hazards related to garment storage containers.
