BS EN 14682:2014 PDF Download

A European Standard called BS EN 14682:2014 describes the requirements for cords and drawstrings on children's clothes. It covers children's attire for kids up to age 14, including disguise costumes and ski gear. The standard recognizes that it is impossible to account for every conceivable danger that might be present in clothes and hence advises conducting individual risk analyses to make sure that the clothing does not offer any risks to the wearer.

It is significant to note that the norm does not apply to all goods and styles of clothing. These include items for children's use and care (like bibs and diapers), shoes and boots, clothing for special occasions worn for brief periods and with adult supervision, specialized sportswear, theatrical costumes, aprons, bags, and purses, as well as accessories like gloves and hats. The standard's Annex C provides justification for these exceptions.
