Hardware for Furniture: Strength and Loading Capacity of Wall Attachment Devices

The test procedures for determining the strength and loading capacity of wall attachment devices for storage furniture and its components are described in the standard BS EN 15939:2019. Devices especially designed to stop furniture from overturning are not covered by this standard. The tests described in the standard assess characteristics relevant to both reasonably anticipated misuse and normally functional use.
The tests outlined in the standard are made to evaluate properties regardless of the materials, construction methods, or design choices that were made. These tests can be performed on the attachment device by itself or on the device attached to both the wall and the furniture. However, the tests do not cover the attachment into the wall itself.
The findings of the strength tests are solely applicable to the devices being evaluated because they are conducted using a test frame with specific characteristics. If the tested model is reflective of the production model, then these data can be used to represent the performance of production models. Tests for corrosion, aging, and the effects of temperature and humidity are not, however, part of the standard.
A method for figuring out loading capacity, requirements for product information, and an approximation of vertical and horizontal forces are all included in the standard's annexes.
