A European standard called BS EN 16014:2011 describes the testing procedures and specifications for the robustness and longevity of locking mechanisms used in furniture. Latching mechanisms are not included in the scope of the standard, which applies to all locking mechanisms and their parts. Both typical functional use and possible misuse are simulated by the tests that make up the standard. Since the tests are intended to evaluate attributes generally, they are not restricted to particular materials, designs, or manufacturing techniques.

The locking mechanisms themselves as well as the attachment-related parts, including screws, are the subject of the strength and durability testing. On particle board with predetermined qualities, tests are run. It should be noted that the test results only provide an indication of how a given piece of furniture will function. Additionally, the outcomes are only applicable to the tested locking systems and parts. The outcomes can be utilized to indicate the performance of the product if the tested model is indicative of the production model. Corrosion, age, and the impacts of heat and humidity are not covered by the standard. The product information system is provided in Annex A, and the test parameters are listed in Annex B.
