Occupational Safety Code for Diving Operations
Also Known As:
The Occupational Safety Code for Diving Operations standard, now in its seventh edition, is CSA Z275.2:20. To protect the safety of divers, it specifies rules for professional diving operations carried out in diverse work and employment environments. SCUBA diving systems, surface-supplied diving systems, deep diving systems, one-atmosphere diving systems, and diving in contaminated settings are all covered by the standard.
One occupational SCUBA category was created by combining the SCUBA diving categories, and updated crew size requirements for surface-supplied diving and offshore diving were also included. The crew size requirements for SCUBA diving were also clarified. The standard includes a new appendix on diver rescue techniques as well as further instructions on nitrox diving.
It's important to remember that this standard is not a diving or procedure manual, nor is it meant to supersede any applicable occupational safety and health laws. Instead, it provides operators with customizable criteria to assure the highest level of safety in specialized activities while adhering to regulations across Canada. There are already tables available for use by divers and regulatory bodies; thus, specific exposure tables and decompression schedules are not supplied.
The support of Canadian government agencies, the Diver Certification Board of Canada, the Canadian Association of Diving Contractors, and commercial diving businesses allowed for the creation of this standard. The standard was created in accordance with the Standards Council of Canada's standards and is disseminated by CSA Group as a National Standard of Canada.
