Safety of Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Part 2: Particular Requirements for Motor-Compressors
Also Known As:
The sealed motor-compressors used in household and comparable air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment are covered by the CAN/CSA-E335-2-34-94 standard. Additionally, it covers motor-compressors used in prefabricated assemblies for heat transfer in cooling, heating, air conditioning, or a combination of these functions. It does not, however, address the unique circumstances that might occur when using the appliance with the motor-compressor in regions with explosive atmospheres.
According to the standard, the requirements must be met by sealed motor compressors that have been individually tested under the most extreme circumstances that may plausibly arise during regular use. It does not replace or supersede current standards that are pertinent to particular applications, such as IEC Publication 378 for room air conditioners or IEC Publication 335-2-24 for refrigerators and food freezers. However, extra tests may not be required when testing the appliance or assembly, provided the compressor type employed complies with the specific requirements listed in these publications.
