Standard EN SampleHousehold and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Particular Requirements for Motor-Compressors
Also Known As:
A standard that explicitly addresses the safety criteria for motor compressors used in home appliances and other comparable electrical devices is BS EN 60335-2-34:2013, also known as IEC 60335-2-34:2012. The standard addresses the associated protection and control systems for hermetic and semi-hermetic motor compressors.
The standard is applicable to motor compressors that have undergone independent testing in the most demanding scenarios imaginable for everyday use. The maximum rated voltage is set at 480 V for other motor-compressors and 250 V for single-phase motor-compressors.
Refrigerators, food freezers, ice makers, air conditioners, electric heat pumps, dehumidifiers, commercial dispensing appliances, vending machines, and factory-built assemblies for heat transfer applications are a few examples of household items that may feature motor-compressors.
While this standard does not replace other standards that apply to particular appliances, if the utilized motor-compressor complies with BS EN 60335-2-34:2013, it may exempt that appliance from some of the tests required by the appliance standard. However, if the finished appliance's control system is connected to the motor-compressor control system, more testing might be required.
Key words: semi-hermetic, hermetic, and motor compressor.
