Standard EN SampleHousehold and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-34: Particular Requirements for Motor-Compressors
Also Known As:
A safety standard called IEC 60335-2-34:2012+AMD1:2015 focuses primarily on motor-compressors used in home appliances and other comparable electrical devices. It addresses the protection and control systems for hermetic and semi-hermetic motor compressors. The standard is applicable to motor-compressors with a rated voltage of up to 250 V for single-phase motor-compressors and 480 V for other types that are tested individually under the harshest conditions anticipated in regular usage.
The standard offers rules for motor-compressors used in various pieces of equipment, such as air conditioners, commercial dispensing appliances, vending machines, refrigerators, food freezers, ice makers, electric heat pumps, dehumidifiers, and heat transfer assemblies. It does not, however, take the place of the specifications of appliance-specific standards. The tests outlined in the specific appliance standard may not need to be repeated in the finished appliance or assembly if the motor-compressor type conforms to this standard. If the motor-compressor control system is connected to the appliance control system, additional testing for the finished appliance might be required.
There is no need to acquire the amendment separately because this edition of the standard includes both the fifth edition from 2012 and its amendment 1 from 2015. IEC 60335-1:2010, which offers a broad framework for the safety of home appliances and other comparable electrical devices, should be read with the standard.
