The construction and operational specifications for atmospheric commercial gas-heated open burners and non-enclosed covered burners are laid out in the DIN EN 203-2-1 standard. It offers test procedures to ensure adherence to these features' requirements as well as rules for safety, energy efficiency, and marking.

This standard must be used in connection with EN 203-1, "Gas heated catering equipment, Part 1: General safety rules," as Part 2-1 amends or supplements certain Part 1 clauses.

With the EN 203-2-1 revision in 2015, new specifications and testing conditions were added. For instance, the test conditions included the addition of a pan and ring with an internal diameter of 600 mm for sampling combustion products. The test for determining combustion under typical conditions was also updated. With these improvements, gas-heating catering equipment is guaranteed to perform safely and effectively.
