Child Use and Care Articles - Soother Holder - Safety Requirements and Test Methods
Also Known As:
For soother holders, the DIN EN 12586 standard specifies safety standards. It covers topics such as components, assembly, functionality, packaging, and labeling. All items created to connect a baby's or young child's soother with any other product must adhere to the standard.
The required safety criteria for soother holders are met thanks to the standard's test procedures for mechanical and chemical requirements. In addition to complying with the standards mentioned in this European Standard, a soother holder that is categorized as a toy or is thought to have significant play value must also meet the safety requirements for toys as stipulated in the Toy Directive (88/378/EEC).
The standard makes it clear that a soother holder is not automatically labeled as a toy just because it has embellishments or fasteners in the shape of animals. The soother holder and the toy, however, must both adhere to the safety standards established in the Toy Directive if a toy component is incorporated. Advice should be sought from an EU Toy Notified Body or the Member State's Competent Authority for Toys if there is any question as to whether a soother holder qualifies as a toy.
