Automatic Electrical Controls - Part 2-8: Particular Requirements for Electrically Operated Water Valves, Including Mechanical Requirements
Also Known As:
The electrically operated water valves used in household and related equipment, such as heating, air conditioning, and other applications, must adhere to the IEC 60730-2-8:2018+AMD1:2021 standard. The standard applies to building automation under the purview of ISO 16484 and encompasses valves powered by primary or secondary batteries. It also applies to valves used in commercial and industrial applications as well as public equipment like shops, offices, hospitals, farms, and other similar facilities.
The electrically driven water valves, as well as the electrical and mechanical elements that affect their intended operation, are the main subject of the standard. The prevention of drinking water pollution via material contact is not covered. The standard also applies to valves used in IEC 60335 series appliances, but it does not apply to valves with nominal connection sizes greater than DN 50 or with permissible nominal pressure ratings greater than 1.6 MPa. Additionally, it does not include steam valves, food dispensers, detergent dispensers, or valves made specifically for industrial uses.
The valves that regulate variables including temperature, pressure, time, humidity, light, flow, liquid level, current, voltage, acceleration, or combinations of these are covered by IEC 60730-2-8:2018+AMD1:2021. It covers specifications for interchangeable actuator and valve bodies. Both individual valves and valves integrated into systems or multi-functional controls with non-electrical outputs must adhere to the standard. It applies to valves that are powered by AC or DC and whose rated voltage does not exceed 690 V AC or 600 V DC.
The standard also specifies standards for electronic valves and valves that use NTC or PTC thermistors. It deals with the electrical and functional safety of valves that can receive and react to wired and wireless communication signals. However, unless assessed as a component of the control system, it does not address network device integrity or interoperability.
This third edition of the standard adds particular specifications for thermoplastic body valves for tap and shower outlets and is compatible with IEC 60730-1, fifth edition (2013). It does away with the prior edition's wet material standards. It replaces the 2000 second edition, the 2002 first amendment, and the 2015 second amendment. The specification is meant to be used along with IEC 60730-1.
