The IEC 60335-2-69:2016 standard is primarily concerned with the security of electrically powered vacuums intended for commercial usage. These vacuum cleaners may have a blowing or inflating function and can be used for wet suction, dry suction, or both. The standard applies to a variety of settings, including hotels, schools, hospitals, industries, offices, and retail stores, among others, where these commercial vacuum cleaners are frequently utilized. It discusses the safety criteria for various equipment, including battery-powered motors and power systems up to 480V for other appliances and 250V for single-phase appliances.

It is significant to note that the following items are exempt from this standard: handheld garden blowers, medical appliances, floor treatment equipment, spray extraction equipment, vacuum cleaners used in homes, and equipment made for explosive or corrosive conditions. In addition, it does not include equipment made for scooping up liquids with flash points below 55 °C, with the exception of equipment made for zone 22.

The fifth edition of this standard was released in 2016 and includes a number of upgrades and revisions to conform to the most recent revision of IEC 60335-1:2010+A1:2013. Updates to terms and definitions, general modifications and updates to the standard, and the addition of additional annexes are just a few of these changes. Manufacturers and testing facilities are the intended users of this standard, which has a suggested adoption window of 12 to 36 months starting from the date of release.
