A laboratory test procedure for assessing the abrasion resistance and fiber bind of flocked textile floor coverings is described in the standard ISO 20253:2016. This test is intended to assess the stability and longevity of certain floor coverings, particularly those created with flocked fibers.
The test process involves gliding a blade across the floor covering's surface back and forth. This blade replicates the friction and repetitive motion that a floor covering could encounter in everyday use. The look of the floor covering is assessed following a predetermined number of blade passes in order to determine the abrasion resistance. This test also evaluates the fiber bind, which is the attachment of the fibers to the supporting material.
