Textile Floor Coverings - Determination of Wool Fibre Integrity Using an Abrasion Machine
Also Known As:
The ISO 17504:1999 standard describes how to use an abrasion machine to evaluate the integrity of wool fibers in textile floor coverings. The requirement only applies to floor coverings whose pile material contains at least 80% wool. This standard's objective is to quantify the degree of fiber damage in the pile of these floor coverings.
According to the procedure outlined in this standard, the textile floor covering is put through an abrasion machine to mimic the wear and tear that the item could endure in actual use. The sample can be put through an abrasion cycle to determine how much fiber damage has occurred. This criterion makes sure that the wool fibers used in the floor covering are assessed for integrity and durability and meet the necessary standards.
