ISO 3416:1986 is a standard that describes how to calculate the thickness loss of textile floor coverings following extended, high static stress. This standard's goal is to simulate the pressure exerted by a chair leg for a brief period of time. It is applicable to all textile floor coverings with uniform thickness and structure, but it can also be used for other textile floor coverings provided independent testing for sections of varying thickness or construction is possible. 

The purpose of this standard is to replace the previous edition, ISO 3415-1975, with technical updates to clauses 4 and 7. It provides a uniform and regulated method for evaluating the thickness loss of textile floor coverings under large loads, allowing manufacturers and consumers to make informed judgments about these products' durability and performance.
