AS/NZS 5263.1.10:2019 PDF Download

A standard known as AS/NZS 5263.1.10:2019 outlines the general specifications and testing procedures for gas direct-fired air heaters. With a maximum energy input of 500 MJ/h, these heaters are intended for household, commercial, or light industrial use. The standard applies to both fixed installations and portable appliances.

The Australian Standard (AS) 4564 and AS 4670, respectively, define natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas (LP Gas) as acceptable fuels for heaters. The applicable fuel gases in New Zealand include natural gas, which is defined in NZS 5442, and general product liquefied petroleum gas (NZLPG), which is defined in NZS 5435.

The guideline also states that, unless they are related to safety, standards for thermal efficiency are instructive. It is important to note that in the following edition of AS/NZS 5263.1.3, direct-fired air heaters with inputs less than 50 MJ/h will no longer be included.

The standard also acknowledges the possibility of additional legal and regulatory obligations being applicable to products falling under its purview. The producer, importer, or distributor is in charge of making sure certain conditions are met.

In Appendices ZA and ZC of the standard, test procedures for gas direct-fired air heaters are described. These test procedures offer instructions for assessing the performance and safety of appliances.
