A standard known as AS/NZS 5263.1.4:2017 lays out specified specifications and test procedures for radiant gas heaters. It covers two different types of heaters: overhead radiant tube heaters for fixed installations with an energy input not exceeding 500 MJ/h and flueless, radiant gas heating appliances for outdoor and non-residential interior spaces with an input not exceeding 70 MJ/h.

Natural gas, town gas, liquefied petroleum gas (LP Gas), simulated natural gas (SNG), and tempered liquefied petroleum gas (TLP) are all acceptable fuel gases in Australia. Natural gas and general product liquefied petroleum gas (NZLPG) are the fuel gases that are specified in New Zealand.

Except when they are safety-related, the thermal efficiency requirements given in this standard are only for informational purposes. The standard also has additional figures in Appendix AA, and Appendices ZA, ZB, and ZC describe the test procedures.
