Standard EN SampleHousehold and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Particular Requirements for Electric Irons
Also Known As:
The safety criteria for electric dry irons and steam irons used for domestic and similar purposes are the focus of AS/NZS 60335.2.3:2002. The specification covers irons with a separate water reservoir or boiler with a maximum capacity of 5 liters and a rated voltage of no more than 250 V.
This standard's scope includes both typical household appliances and those that could endanger the public, like irons used in stores, small businesses, and farms. With several exceptions, the standard tries to address the frequent risks that people face inside and outside of their houses. It does not take into consideration the risks connected with children playing with the appliance, nor does it take into account the use of irons by young children or elderly people without supervision.
It's crucial to note that this standard does not apply to appliances made specifically for industrial use or ironers, which are governed by IEC 60335-2-44. Additionally, this standard does not apply to appliances designed for use in settings with unique characteristics, such as those with corrosive or explosive atmospheres (dust, vapor, or gas). For appliances used in automobiles, ships, or aircraft, as well as where mandated by national health authorities, labor protection agencies, and other pertinent authorities, compliance with extra requirements may be essential.
