The test code for determining airborne acoustical noise in homes and comparable electrical appliances, notably dishwashers, is specified in the standard BS EN 60704-2-3:2019. This standard specifies specific criteria for cold and/or warm water delivery for single-unit electric dishwashers, including those with or without automatic program management.
The standard applies to dishwashers that can be integrated into existing structures or put beneath counters, kitchen work surfaces, or sinks and can be connected to sewage or water supply systems. Dishwashers that may be mounted on a wall or set on a counter are also included.
The standard makes reference to ISO 3743-1, ISO 3743-2, and ISO 3744 measurement techniques for the noise produced by electric dishwashers. While ISO 3744 offers a method for measuring sound pressure levels, ISO 3743-1 and ISO 3743-2 describe methods for estimating the sound power levels of noise sources.
