Bicycles made exclusively for young children must meet the safety and performance standards of the BS EN ISO 8098:2014 standard. The design, assembly, and testing of fully completed bicycles and sub-assemblies for this target market are covered by the standard. Additionally, it contains directions about how to use and maintain bicycles.
The specification is applicable to bicycles with a maximum saddle height of over 435 mm and under 635 mm. With the exception of specialized bicycles used for stunts, like BMX bicycles, these bicycles are pushed by a transmission drive to the rear wheel.
