In accordance with ISO 8098:2002, bicycles made for young children between the ages of four and eight must meet certain safety criteria and undergo certain testing. It covers the bicycles' sub-assemblies as well as their design, construction, and testing. The standard also specifies guidance for how to use and maintain bicycles.
The standard is applicable to bicycles with a maximum saddle height of 435 mm to 635 mm and rear wheels driven by transmission. But it excludes specific bicycles made for stunt riding, like BMX bikes.
