By examining the safety of button attachment, the BS EN 17394-2:2020 standard focuses on the security of children's clothes. This test procedure is suitable for many different types of clothing, including textile belts, hosiery, caps, scarves, gloves, and scarves. Toys, other items sold with apparel, child care items, and footwear (shoes, boots) are not covered by this rule.
The scope is limited to sewn-on, toggle, and tack buttons, according to the standard. Other garment components are evaluated in different papers, specifically CEN/TS 17394-3 or CEN/TS 17394-4. CEN/TS 17394-1 outlines the performance specifications for children's apparel safety.
It is important to note that disguise costumes, such as carnival costumes, which are also regarded as toys, are covered by the Toy Safety Directive rather than this particular standard.
