Standard EN SampleTextiles and Textile Products: Safety of Children's Clothing - Security of Attachment of Components Except Buttons and Metal Mechanically Applied Press Fasteners - Test Method
Also Known As:
The safety of children's clothes is the focus of a number of standards, one of which is the PD CEN/TS 17394-4:2021 standard. It complements two existing standards that explicitly address the security of the attachment of buttons and mechanically applied metal press fasteners (EN 17394-2:2020 and CEN/TS 17394-3:2021).
Labels, badges, sequins, rhinestones, rivets, eyelets, and non-metal press fasteners are some examples of the components that fall under this specific standard and are used in children's clothes. The test technique outlined in the standard is intended to evaluate the attachment security of these components, particularly for small components whose integrity is compromised by gripping or cannot be grasped by test equipment jaws.
The primary goal of the standard is to determine if the parts are still firmly fastened because their separation could endanger children's safety. The attachment security of the components is tested using a very abrasive wash procedure, according to the specification.
It's crucial to remember that this rule does not apply to child care items, shoes, boots, and other types of similar footwear, toys, or other items offered with apparel. These products are governed by various standards or laws and fall under the purview of several CEN Technical Committees.
