Standard EN SampleTextiles and Textile Products: Safety of Children's Clothing. Security of Attachment of Attached Components to Infants' Clothing. Specification
Also Known As:
The goal of the PD CEN/TS 17394-1:2021 standard is to guarantee the security of attachment of attached components to children's clothes, specifically infant apparel. It talks about the dangers that could come from small parts like buttons, press fasteners, rivets, sequins, and diamantes, or fragments of these parts, that can fit totally inside a small part cylinder without compression.
The guideline acknowledges that young children, who may not yet be able to disclose any mishaps or dangers to their caretakers, are particularly susceptible to these small components. The risk of choking, swallowing, ingesting, aspiration, or insertion into the eyes, nose, or ears increases when these little parts of clothing come loose.
It is significant to highlight that this criterion does not apply to toys, other items sold with apparel, shoes, boots, and similar footwear, child care items, or other items. Other CEN Technical Committees have jurisdiction over these matters, or they are covered by the Toy Safety Directive.
