Standard EN SampleHousehold and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Particular Requirements for Refrigerating Appliances, Ice-Cream Appliances and Ice-Makers
Also Known As:
The goal of the BS EN 60335-2-24:2003+A2:2007 standard is to guarantee the security of various kinds of refrigeration equipment. This covers refrigerators for use in homes and other settings, ice makers with motor compressors, ice makers built inside compartments for storing frozen foods, and refrigeration equipment and ice makers for use in recreational settings like camping, traveling in RVs, and boating.
For single-phase appliances, the standard applies to devices with rated voltages no higher than 250 volts (480 volts for others) and 24 volts DC for battery-operated devices. These devices may run on either mains power, a separate battery, or a combination of the two.
The standard also addresses the safety criteria for home ice cream appliances in addition to freezers and ice makers. These appliances can only operate at rated voltages of 480 volts for some appliances and 250 volts for single-phase appliances.
Compression-type appliances that employ flammable refrigerants are also covered by the standard. This guarantees that all appliances—even those using potentially dangerous refrigerants—meet the necessary standards for safety.
