Furniture - Assessment of the surface resistance to scratching
Also Known As:
The surface resistance to scratching of completed furniture products can be measured using the DIN EN 15186 standard. With the exception of leather and fabrics, this standard is applicable to the rigid surfaces of all completed items. It uses two techniques: Method A replicates detectable penetrating and/or deforming scratches and is applicable for all surface coatings and coverings, with the exception of melamine facing boards and HPL. Contrarily, Method B simulates the first visible scratches, which may merely cause a change in shine and is appropriate for all types of surfaces.
Usually, a piece of the finished furniture is used for the test; however, test panels made of the same material and with the same finish can also be used. To guarantee an accurate evaluation, it is essential that the test be carried out on blank surfaces.
