Guidelines for sampling performance infills used in synthetic turf surfaces are provided by the DIN EN 17409 standard. Its principal goal is to make sure that performance, environmental, and toxicological rules and standards are being followed.
The standard specifies four distinct sampling techniques. Samples can be taken using Method 1 while the infill material is being made. While Method 2 explains how to sample from large bags of infill, Method 3 explains how to sample from smaller bags. The final method, Method 4, explains how to take a sample from a real synthetic grass sports, entertainment, or landscaping surface.
All types of infill used in synthetic turf surfaces can be sampled using these techniques.
