The DIN EN 13248 standard is concerned with home coffee makers with a separate heat source. For these appliances, it lays out definitions, specifications, and test procedures. The standard provides the operational rules, production procedures, design specifications, and safety criteria for these coffee machines. Along with instructions for use and maintenance, it also includes information on marking and labeling regulations.
The requirements only apply to coffee machines that generate mellow coffee infusions under steam pressure using a separate heating system. The operating pressure for these coffee machines must be greater than 50 kPa (0.5 bar) but less than 250 kPa (2.5 bar). Additionally, these coffee machines must have a maximum usage volume of no more than 2 liters.
