Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-52: Particular Requirements for Oral Hygiene Appliances

IEC 60335-2-52:2021 is a standard that focuses on the safety criteria for toothbrushes and other oral hygiene-related household and comparable electrical appliances. The standard is applicable to both battery-operated and direct current (DC)-powered appliances with a rated voltage of up to 250 volts.
The standard intends to address the frequent risks connected to these appliances that are used by people inside and outside of the house. It does not, however, particularly address the safety of those who might not have the necessary physical, sensory, or mental capacity to operate the appliance properly without adult supervision or education, such as children. The safety concerns associated with kids playing with these gadgets are also not covered.
The standard acknowledges the possibility of extra standards being required for appliances intended for use in automobiles, ships, or airplanes, in addition to any unique requirements imposed by national health authorities, labor protection authorities, and other comparable entities in various nations.
The standard does not apply to devices made for medical use, which are covered by the distinct standard IEC 60601. This is vital to remember.
The third edition from 2002 and all future revisions are replaced by the fourth edition of this standard, which was released in 2021. To conform to the most recent edition of IEC 60335-1:2020, it has undergone technical revisions. These revisions include updates to the specifications for battery-operated appliances, the introduction of new test probes and stability tests, drop tests and additional strength tests, and updated tables reflecting smaller cell capacities for battery-operated appliances.
It should be used in conjunction with the most recent edition of IEC 60335-1 and any revisions to ensure conformity with this Part 2 standard. The most recent version of IEC 60335-1 that does not preclude the application of this Part 2 standard, however, shall be used in its place if a specific edition does. The 2020 publication of IEC 60335-1's sixth edition served as the foundation for developing this standard.
