The requirements for electrical mobile motor-operated vacuum cleaners and dust extractors used to gather flammable dust in an explosive dust atmosphere are laid out in the standard IEC 62784:2017+A1:2019. These tools, which are designed for commercial indoor use and can be used for wet or dry suction, may or may not come with attachments. This standard is applicable to vacuum cleaners and dust extractors with an Equipment Protection Level (EPL) of DC, meaning that they are made to stop flammable dust from igniting.

In addition to the standards listed in IEC 60335-2-69 for commercial and industrial vacuum cleaners, this standard specifies additional requirements. Additionally, it amends and adds to the requirements of IEC 60079-0, with IEC 62784 provisions assuming precedence in the event of a disagreement. The standard applies to vacuum cleaners and dust extractors with rated voltages of up to 480 V for other appliances and 250 V for single-phase appliances.

It is significant to note that, unless the manufacturer specifies otherwise in line with IEC 60079-0, this standard does not cover special risks connected with extreme temperatures below -20 °C or above 40 °C. Additionally, it excludes a number of specific devices that are listed in the standard, including backpack vacuum cleaners, vacuum cleaners with traction drives, household vacuum cleaners, water-suction cleaning appliances, floor treatment machines, and spray extraction machines.

IEC 62784:2017+A1:2019, a consolidated version of the standard, contains both the original edition released in 2017 and its amendment 1 issued in 2019. Therefore, since the change is already included in this publication, there is no need to order it separately.
