The ISO 7173:1989 standard specifies test procedures for determining the strength and longevity of several chair types, including stools and easy chairs. It does not, however, include chairs that may recline or tilt, nor does it include furniture made for a particular application. The standard excludes testing for filling materials, upholstery textiles, and foam cushions, as well as the evaluation of aging and degradation.
The tests outlined in ISO 7173:1989 are intended to be performed on fully built, use-ready chairs and stools. For chairs and stools made for adults, the forces and measurements listed in the standard apply.
