Guidelines for choosing and cutting specimens from samples for physical testing are provided by the ISO 1957:2000 standard. The reference technique for choosing the sample from the bulk material is included in annex A of the standard. It is accepted that the sample may not accurately represent the bulk material if it is not chosen in accordance with appendix A. It is advised that all parties interested in the test findings agree on the sampling strategy. Whether they have pile or not, machine-made textile floor coverings must adhere to the standard.
