Two techniques (A and B) for assessing the abrasion resistance of laminate floor coverings are provided by ISO 24338:2014. This standard's objective is to ascertain how well laminate flooring's surface layer can survive abrasive wear.

In Method A, a test specimen is rotated while in contact with two loaded cylindrical wheels that are covered in predetermined abrasive paper. The laminate floor covering's resistance to wear-through is measured using this technique.

By abrading the surface of test items with two loaded wheels that have a specific abrasive applied, Method B assesses the resistance to wear. It is determined by how many revolutions are necessary to produce a specific level of abrasion.

It is significant to note that additional interlaboratory data is needed to establish the accuracy of these procedures because their precision is not yet known. A precision statement will be added to the standard once this data is available.
