Standard EN SampleHousehold and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Particular Requirements for Appliances for Skin Exposure to Optical Radiation
Also Known As:
A standard called AS/NZS 60335.2.27:2020 is concerned with the security of electrical devices used in homes and other settings that are intended to expose skin to light. The standard is applicable to appliances with a maximum rated voltage of 480 V for other appliances and 250 V for single-phase appliances. Battery-operated and DC-powered appliances are also included.
The goal of the standard is to address the typical risks connected to using appliances in tanning beds, beauty salons, and other similar facilities. However, it does not particularly take into account anyone (including children) who could be limited in their ability to use the appliance safely without supervision or instruction due to physical, sensory, or mental limitations. Additionally, it does not include kids using the appliance.
The standard underlines the possibility of extra criteria for appliances designed for use in automobiles, ships, or aircraft, as well as the possibility of new rules from national health authorities, labor protection authorities, and other similar organizations. It also emphasizes the possibility of applying additional standards, such as IEC 60598-1, when appropriate.
Appliances for skin or hair care, sauna heating appliances, infrared cabins, cosmetic and beauty care appliances using lasers and intense light sources, medical appliances, UV radiation-using appliances for uses other than tanning the skin, and appliances designed for use in environments with unique conditions like corrosive or explosive atmospheres are not covered by AS/NZS 60335.2.27:2020.
