Standard EN SampleHousehold and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Particular Requirements for Appliances for Skin Exposure to Ultraviolet and Infrared Radiation
Also Known As:
The safety standards for electrical devices that generate UV or infrared radiation and are used to expose skin are covered in the standard known as BS EN 60335-2-27:2013. The standard is applicable to appliances used in homes and other settings, with rated voltages of up to 480 V for other appliances and 250 V for single-phase appliances. It also includes equipment designed for use in beauty salons, tanning beds, and other similar settings.
The standard has undergone significant updates for its fourth version. It clarifies the radiation measurement process and, in an annex, offers instructions for a schedule of exposure times. With these modifications, appliances that generate UV or infrared radiation should be safer and more effective.
The standard suggests that National Committees grant a transitory period to equipment producers and testing businesses so they can meet the new specifications and carry out the required tests. The committee recommends that no earlier than 12 months and no later than 36 months after the publication date, the contents of this document be implemented nationally.
IEC 60335-1:2013, which addresses general safety criteria for home and similar electrical appliances, should be read in combination with this standard.
