A standard called AS/NZS 62115:2018 (IEC Text) focuses on the safety criteria for electric toys. Comparing this edition to the 2011 edition, a number of significant technological changes have been made.
The general conditions for tests were rewritten and modified, which is one of the major changes. This guarantees that the testing methods are reliable and current. The criteria for reduced testing have also been changed, enabling testing procedures to be more effective and efficient.
To address the possible risks connected with these types of batteries, the standard now includes explicit warnings for toys that use button batteries or coin batteries. The safety precautions for kids using ride-on toys have also been improved with the addition of warnings.
The update also specifies accessibility guidelines for batteries, ensuring that they are securely fastened and shielded from unauthorized access. The standard now provides thorough safety standards for a larger variety of electric toys, including devices connected to other equipment and toys positioned above a child.
The specifications have been amended to include using the technical LED data sheet to verify compliance with defined accessible emission limits in order to address the safety of toys using optical radiation sources. Updated measurement information has also been provided for the toy's optical radiation.
The informative Annex I, which describes measuring procedures for toys with integrated field sources producing electromagnetic fields (EMF), has been introduced. To meet the security standards for remote controls used with electric ride-on toys, a normative Annex J has also been added.
The 2018 edition of AS/NZS 62115 (IEC Text), which incorporates the text of IEC 62115 Ed 2, will replace the 2011 edition on June 29, 2021, and it is crucial to highlight that this will provide compatibility and alignment with international standards.
